As a textile artist, I combine my background in forest ecology with my desire share the beauty of nature with others. As I have worked and/or lived amidst nature all my life, I became interested in natural dyes as a way to connect my love of nature with fiber arts.
All of my work is dyed with all natural dyes – many that I grow or gather myself from the woods surrounding my home and studio in the Oregon forest. The naturally dyed fabric in all of my work is washable and permanent.
A large part of my work incorporates botanical printing, an art form that uses the natural pigments in leaves to make beautiful, one of a kind designs on fabric or paper. Each piece is completely unique and uses no synthetic dyes, inks or pigments. The leaves release their natural pigment and leave their likeness in a permanent print. Each individual leaf is used only once and the resulting print shows the specific character of the plant. They tells the story of season, weather, and age, inviting us to slow down and take a closer look at the textures, patterns and beauty of nature.
Products I make include:
* silk and wool scarves
* silk and organic lavender eye pillows
* naturally dyed cotton baskets
* naturally dyed silk embroidery floss
* natural dye kits and craft kits that incorporate naturally dyed materials
* indigo dyed dish towels and tote bags
My work can found online, seasonally at fine art festivals, and a private shopping experience can be scheduled at Cedar Dell Forest Farm, located in Gresham, Oregon.
I also teach natural dye workshops!
